I do prefer a pencil

This week I found out that I do prefer a pencil over the ink. Not to erase but to make the lines softer. If I had used different ink and different way to apply that ink I would have been able to make the lines softer. But I did not do that.

The thing I liked about using a pen for inktober was that I always had one around. And it is really easy to use. But with a pencil, I smudge out some of the lines with my finger. This makes the lines softer. Sometimes that gives a different feel to a drawing or doodle.

My doodles for this week:

Food moon

We had to stand in the middle of a dark room. There were pictures everywhere that we thought was the moon. There were different moons on each photo, the craters were in a different place. So it couldn’t be a moon at all. our guide started to tell his story. He said they were all pancakes instead of the moon.

I think it’s brilliant that someone came up with the idea of photographing something as simple as a¬†pancake so that it looks like something completely different. The pancakes were placed on a bowl or a sphere to simulate the curve of the moon. And it was photographed just next to the window to also simulate the reflection of light, just like the real moon.

I think it is beautifully simple.

Explore Breda

In the first few weeks of our first year, we got the task to explore Breda. And make a 2D design of 30cmx30cm about it.

So I took a few photo’s of the lovely art that you can find in Breda.

While I went through the city I noticed that the city was quite clean for a city of this size. But it was mostly clean in the parts that people see. When I went to the parts where people live and you only go if you need to be there it is less clean.

After that, I found a site which showed soil quality in the city. I found out that the ground that our school is on is potentially serious. I can hear you wonder what that really means. (I still do not know this.) To find an answer I send an e-mail to the municipality which sends me a file with information about the property. Unfortunately, it did not really help. So I worked with what I had and made the following illustration.
